Paris

2013 marks the one hundred year anniversary since Coco Chanel opened her first boutique in the Normandy seaside town of Deauville. Born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel on August 19, 1883 she died in 1971 at the age of 87.

She is credited with liberating women from the constraints of the corseted silhouette and empowering them with a new confident attitude. Chanel was the only fashion designer to appear on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Today the label boasts over 300 outlets worldwide.

This year also marks the 30th anniversary that Karl Lagerfeld has resided as creative head of the esteemed fashion house.
